Real Wedding: Stephanie and Richard at the Haymarket

Another sneak peek into Stephanie and Richard’s beautiful winter wedding at London’s Haymarket Hotel. Pictures courtesy of the fabulous Ken Buist.

Stephanie’s dress was by Pronovias. It was stunning.

As the wedding was just a few days before Christmas, the favours were Christmas Tree decorations tied with ribbon. The ribbon matched the bridesmaid’s dresses perfectly!

Slumdog Millionaire, Dreams on Fire

Last week I took a trip to see the fantastic Slumdog Millionaire. A. R. Rahman’s soundtrack is utterly beautiful and helped to paint a vivid picture of Mumbai. With wedding planning never far from my mind, I noticed Dreams on Fire, a beautiful track which would be perfect for entrance music; either for the entire bridal party or just for the bridesmaids before the music changes to something different for the bride.

Design Concept: Candy Pink and Scarlet Red

This board was really meant for Valentines day but as I was putting it together I realised the balance between the sharp, fiery red and the soft, sugary pink was hard to perfect so completing the board took a little longer than expected.

valentines2

I love this board because there is so much contrast it shouldn’t work but somehow it just does. The pink is sweet, innocent and traditional whilst the red is cheeky, contemporary and just a little bit sexy.

Using the right shades of pink and red is essential here; the pink must be feminine but strong enough to hold it’s own against the red whilst the red must be scarlet and acidic enough to create that contemporary ‘pop’.

If you’re translating this concept into a wedding, my advice would be to use the pink and red sparingly and to use a neutral grey-taupe in places to ensure the end result isn’t too overpowering.

Happy weekend everyone!

Real Wedding: Stephanie and Richard

Back in December you might remember we mentioned Stephanie and Richard’s beautiful winter wedding at London’s Haymarket Hotel. We’ve just had a couple of shots back from the lovely Ken Buist so I thought I’d give you a sneak peek. More to come.

Effortlessly Elegant Bridesmaids

I adore the bridesmaid’s dresses from this wedding featured over at SMP last week. Letting your girls choose different dresses within a colour palette is a great way of achieving happy, confident and therefore extra-beautiful bridesmaids.

News Update

caligraphy

Hello there everyone, hope you all had a relaxed, loved up weekend! Lots of WBZL news for you this morning.

On Friday I headed over to Battersea Park for the Designer Wedding Show. It was fab to see some familiar faces and to meet some new ones too.  I met calligrapher Paul Antonio who  was kind enough pen the above for me and also the lovely Emily and Jo who were showcasing their rather gorgeous range of contemporary stationery. This is one of my favourites:

I met the charming and uber talented Peggy Porschen who’s cakes look even better in real life than they do in print and caught up with the lovely Vanessa Gore of You and Your Wedding Magazine to chat over some of the new trends we’re seeing at the moment.

There were some beautiful dresses on the runway including the SATC Vivian Westwood gown! My favourite collection was by Jenny Packham which as usual screamed old school glamour and sophisitication. In particular, Joy caught my eye:

It really was a fab day and as I was leaving, I felt proud that there is such a selection of amaing talent available to couples in London. Hooray!

In other news, we’re delighted to announce the launch of a couple of great new blogs. First up, the wonderful and all round wedding planning guru, Bernadette Chapman has joined the blogosphere. Prepare for planning tips, inspiration and wedding news galore! Second up, we’ve been working really hard alongside Bernadette and the other lovely directors of the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners to launch a new blog. The blog is part of the UKAWP’s aim of improving professionalism within the planning industry and is jam packed full of tips, discussion topics, showcase weddings and much, much more.  If you’re a fellow planner be sure to stop by or even consider coming along to WPE ‘09; a training conference for established planners. The weekend is set to be fab and we’re slightly flabberghasted to have been asked to speak all about blogging on the Saturday!

If you’re not quite established enough to join us at WPE ‘09 but would love to find out more about becoming a wedding planner, I would really would encourage you to think about completing one of the UKAWP’s training courses. We completed one right back at the beginning and have never looked back.

Phew! I think that’s all our excting news for now. Have a great week everyone.

Design Concept: Everything’s Just Peachy

peachyAfter my declaration that peach is back, I thought I’d better supply some evidence.

Even if I do say so myself, I’m slightly in love with this board. Like the last couple, it’s slightly dreamy but rather than being designed specifically for Spring, this board is just perfect for Summer.

For the details I’d choose a replica of that stunning MS bouquet, using honeysuckle and actual peaches for the larger displays. For the tables I’d tie name tags to ripe peaches and position at each place setting, whilst welcome drinks would be Bellinis and favours would just have to be (and sorry if this is just a bit too obvious but it’s too good to miss,) peach jam.

So there you have it, proof that peach is super chic and no longer bannished to the decade that fashion forgot!

Lauren Luke: Zoom Zoom!

If you’re a Guardian reader you’ll know all out Lauren Luke, the latest youtube phenomenon to take the world by storm. A complete fairytale, Lauren; a single mum from South Sheilds, has gained celebrity status by posting the makeup tutorials she films in her bedroom. Having achieved a cult following, Lauren has just launched a weekly Guardian column and is soon due to have her own range of makeup.

Lots of brides mention that they want to do their makeup themselves – something I always try to disuade them from (wedding day nerves can complicate just about everything and professional artists really can work wonders), however if a makeup artist really isn’t for you then Lauren in your lady! With tutorials in nearly every look under the sun, product recommendations galore and videos you can watch again until you get things just right, I have to say I am quite addicted to listening to Lauren’s gentle Geordie! My favourite tutorials are the Beauty Basics Foundation and Lauren’s Cheryl Cole.

Happy viewing!
