Blurb Giveaway

blurb

So I’m really excited today to announce that we are hosting our first ever WBZL giveaway and oh boy are you in for a treat! Having long admired the lovely books by Blurb, I was thrilled when the company got in touch to offer 5 lucky readers the chance to win a £30 voucher. You lucky devils!

Blurb have created an ingenious system that allows you to create your very own book. The books can display a mixture of photographs, artwork and/or text and are perfect for creating a really special wedding keepsake. There are a million and one ways to use Blurb in relation to your nuptials but I especially love the idea of creating a book that is passed around during the drinks reception that tells the story of how you met and got together. I also love, love, love the thought of creating customised fairytale books to keep the little ones entertained during dinner.

If you’d like the chance of winning one of the vouchers just leave a comment explaining what you’d put in your book (doesn’t have to be wedding related) and the winners will be chosen at random and announced here next Monday the 22nd of Feb.

Good luck!

Art Deco Gowns from Lindsay Fleming

When these stunning images from Lindsay Fleming hit our inbox today let’s say we were speechless. Art-deco-delicious, the perfect way to brighten a dreary January day.

The company is soon to be visiting London to extend their services to those outside of Scotland so get in touch if you’re interested in getting your hands on one of these beauties yourself.

Pompomtastic

Pompoms are so cheery they always make me want to laugh*; the perfect accessory to a cute, contemporary shindig. These ones from Party Poms are especially beautiful.

These minature napkin holders are cute, cute, cute!

*maybe this is because they remind me of furiously wrapping wool around two cardboard circles at Brownies. I don’t know what they were for but I remember making lots of pompoms at Brownies. How strange.

Post Card RSVPs

A few weeks ago while working on the design for a lovely wedding next year, I had a little idea that I wanted to share. We work with lots of couples who have international roots and subsequently are always looking for new ways to reflect this within a wedding. For this particular wedding, I suggested asking guests to RSVP using a postcard from their locality and to include a note on how they know the couple or a great memory they have from spending time with them. These postcards could then be displayed at the wedding (we like washing line style, similar to the picture below) and thus act as some entertainment during the reception.

Gift Boxes for Out of Towners

One trend I’m seeing a lot this season & one that is especially popular if guests are coming from across the globe is providing ‘welcome bags’. These bags (or boxes if you like) are placed in guests’ hotel rooms and filled with goodies to help your nearest and dearest feel at home. I love, love, love welcome bags as they’re a great way of injecting some personality into your celebrations, possible to produce on small and large budgets alike and another chance to thank guests for attending your celebrations. Bags can be as simple or as fancy as you like with ribbons, tissue paper, personalised motifs and name-tags, and can contain anything you fancy. Below are a few of my ideas for contents:

An information card outlining your celebration’s itinerary, local points of interest, the hotel’s facilities and a map

A short ‘thank you for attending our day’ note

A bottle of mineral water

A bottle of your favourite essential oil

A compilation CD of your favourite music

A copy of your favourite childhood storybooks

A face pack

A half bottle of wine

A luxurious shower cream, bubble bath and/or body lotion

A miniature can of hair spray

A miniature deodorant/body spray

A scented candle

A sleep mask or cooling eye mask

A small medical kit including plasters, paracetamol/ibuprofen and a hangover cure

Bags of your favourite candy

Bottles of Elderflower presse, ginger beer and/or pink lemonade

Facial tissues, wet wipes, nail files and safety pins

Fresh fruit

High quality chocolate

High quality tea and ground coffee (our favourite is from Monmouth)

Jars of locally produced honey, jam or chutney

Locally produced biscuits and/or cheese

Locally produced Real Ale

Sachets of insect repellent and sun cream

Budget Friendly Frosted Votives

Just back in the office after a little trip away and here to meet us when got back was a big box of these votives which have arrived for a wedding later this month. These little lovelies cast a soft, warm glow across any tablescape and at 84p each are super-budget friendly, meaning you can buy lots and create a big impact. In addition, because they’re frosted and you can’t see the candle flame they’re perfect for hiding battery powered tealights in venues that don’t allow candles.

Scenting Your Wedding

So often at weddings, fragrance is something that’s completely neglected. Couples will spend hours deliberating over music, food, lighting and floral arrangements yet forget all about the importance of smell. Research has shown that scent is the quickest trigger for memories and emotions so it makes sense to incorporate this into a day you want to remember forever.

There are so many different ways to incorporate fragrance into your wedding from placing scented candles around your venue (our favourite are Diptyque) to putting a drop of fragrance on your invitations (be sure to do a spot check first). We also love the gorgeous English Roses available from The Real Flower company whose stunning flowers will fill your ceremony and reception space with a delicious fragrance. These days you can even get your hands on amazing scent machines which spray bursts of fragrance throughout the evening. Unbelievably Scent Air has over 1,500 different scents to choose from and will even evaluate the flowers in your bouquet in order to pick out complimentary notes. We love the idea of changing the scent as you move between your wedding breakfast and evening reception to really mark the change in atmosphere and add another dimension to the day.

Another great way to ensure your fragrance leaves its mark is to concoct a signature perfume just for your big day. The lovely people at Jo Malone encourage you to find your ‘little black dress’ fragrance by layering their different essences to create something special and unique whilst The Perfume Studio allow you to create an entirely bespoke fragrance and will even host a ‘Perfume Party’ in your living room! A great hen party option.

So go ahead, add another dimension to your celebrations and put some thought into your wedding fragrance.
