Design Concept: Oo La La!

For today’s board I wanted to do something classically elegant and luxurious, yet understated. With a colour palette of soft pink and mushroom brown, this board was inspired by that beautiful Jim Hjelm dress with it’s gorgeous ruffles and layers. I also wanted to combine a touch of French romance as a little tribute to my dear friend Hayley who recently had a surprise proposal in Paris!

Bridesmaids in soft pink never fail to make my heart flutter and adding a touch of soft brown means the whole look avoids being overly saccharine. Pink will never, ever go out of fashion with weddings so if you’re struggling to decide on a palette and looking for something timeless yet feminine, pink is a great choice.

From the moment I saw that beautiful bouquet (shot by uber talented Nikole Ramsey,) I couldn’t get the combination of pretty peach and deep, juicy purple out of my head. I love, love, love peach but until now have only thought of it in terms of delicate summer weddings and was gobsmacked by the results of combining two such contrasting shades.

I’m in love with the earthy feel of this board which just feels perfect for the this month’s shifting seasons.

Catching up on my reader yesterday I stumbled across this mesmerising picture of the vintage typewriter and completely fell in love with the colour interaction. Soft, sweet and with an air of 1950’s retro, this quietly vintage board and reminds me of the song ‘Lollipop’ by the Chordettes and would be perfect for a girly bride who has a sweet tooth.

Texture is really important within this board and I’d love to see a bride with an ostrich feather gown, lots of satin ribbon and countless tuelle pompoms dotted around the venue.

Hello there everybody, happy Wednesday! We thought a Design Concept was long overdue so here you go, something with a little sophistication for this cloudy Wednesday morning.

Classic and elegant with a twist of quirky bohemian vintage we love this board’s muted palette of barely-there blush colours, creating a concept that is quiet and retiring yet powerfully classic and elegant. We like the idea of collecting vintage style object and trinkets to use for table centers, each one being slightly different and adding to the bohemian feel of the day.

Design Concept: Spring has Sprung!

Spring is hands down my favourite season. This morning I woke to sunshine streaming through the window and it felt very much like Spring had at last, sprung. Perfect timing for this cheery, happy-go-lucky board. Happy March!

Design Concept: Candy Pink and Scarlet Red

This board was really meant for Valentines day but as I was putting it together I realised the balance between the sharp, fiery red and the soft, sugary pink was hard to perfect so completing the board took a little longer than expected.

I love this board because there is so much contrast it shouldn’t work but somehow it just does. The pink is sweet, innocent and traditional whilst the red is cheeky, contemporary and just a little bit sexy.

Using the right shades of pink and red is essential here; the pink must be feminine but strong enough to hold it’s own against the red whilst the red must be scarlet and acidic enough to create that contemporary ‘pop’.

If you’re translating this concept into a wedding, my advice would be to use the pink and red sparingly and to use a neutral grey-taupe in places to ensure the end result isn’t too overpowering.

Effortlessly Elegant Bridesmaids

I adore the bridesmaid’s dresses from this wedding featured over at SMP last week. Letting your girls choose different dresses within a colour palette is a great way of achieving happy, confident and therefore extra-beautiful bridesmaids.

Design Concept: Everything’s Just Peachy

After my declaration that peach is back, I thought I’d better supply some evidence.

Even if I do say so myself, I’m slightly in love with this board. Like the last couple, it’s slightly dreamy but rather than being designed specifically for Spring, this board is just perfect for Summer.

For the details I’d choose a replica of that stunning MS bouquet, using honeysuckle and actual peaches for the larger displays. For the tables I’d tie name tags to ripe peaches and position at each place setting, whilst welcome drinks would be Bellinis and favours would just have to be (and sorry if this is just a bit too obvious but it’s too good to miss,) peach jam.

So there you have it, proof that peach is super chic and no longer bannished to the decade that fashion forgot!

With us still being in deepest darkest winter, I’m starting to crave Spring with it’s longer days and delicate flowers. So when I saw these extraordinarily beautiful macaroons over at Cannelle et Vanille I knew it was time for a Spring inspired board which hopefully brings a breath of fresh air your way on this Monday morning!

Design Concept: Luxurious Winter Wonderland

There is something so beautiful and so special about winter weddings. I think often we can be all too eager to opt for a summer date because we’re counting on the (super unreliable) weather when a winter wedding would be just as beautiful and a fraction of the cost.

Very often the colour palette of choice for a winter wedding is red. Now don’t get me wrong, this can be and very often is, stunning but because I think it’s important to break the mould, the colour palette for this board is something a little different. The rich green and purple used here retain the luxury and warmth of that ever-popular red but are something just a little bit different and I can already hear guests gasping with amazement at bridesmaids in that beautiful shade of green. (The combination of purple and green in all it’s many shades and hues is a fail safe one. Way back when I launched the blog I featured this one which just shows how you can create a completely different feel by simply adjusting the shades of particular colours.)

As for the rest of the wedding I see an uber modern venue just like the fabulous Haymarket Hotel in central London, a super chic cake like this one from April Reed a roaring fire and a twinkling (but ever so chic) Christmas tree. For favours I’d choose modern, minimalist Christmas decorations and for flowers I’d pick something like the beautiful Anenomies pictured above and team them with winter berries and ivy to keep the winter/Christmas feel going. Perfect!
